ABSTRACT
This exhibit will focus on the characterization of different morphological patterns of enhancement on breast MR imaging. We will review enhancement categories based on BIRADS MRI lexicon and present relevant MR case examples. We will discuss the common benign entities mimickers of cancer. Breast MR imaging technique optimization will be discussed, to include the application of spectroscopy and sodium imaging. We will review technical pitfalls related to patient factors (i.e. body habitus, movement), mechanical factors (i.e. imaging protocols, metallic or wrap artifact, field inhomogeneity, incomplete fat suppression) or ambiguity of imaging findings (i.e. post-surgical changes, physiologic factors). Limitations of kinetic analysis of enhancement will be addressed. An algorithmic approach to the work-up of breast abnormalities detected or characterized on MR imaging will be presented based on the literature review.
